I will need several resources to carry out my GAME plans. I will need the assistance of my peers, my computer, the smart board, my lesson plans, and a personal journal. I will need to enlist the help of a peer to help monitor my progress of siting sources and to observe my teaching and modeling. I plan to use a personal journal to document my progress of learning how to use EBooks and to graph my use of siting sources. My lesson plans will be used for viewing my progress of documenting the sources for my lessons. Finally, the computer and Smart Board will be used of carrying out lessons and modeling techniques for my students.
Some additional information that I will need to complete my GAME plans is to learn more about the use of EBooks. I will be sitting down next week with several of my peers to help each other through the process of accessing and use of the EBooks. Through this meeting of the minds, I will be able to continue to assist other colleagues on how to use the EBooks.
So far I have been able to site the resources I have used on three different sets of lesson plans. I have begun to graph the amount of times that I have documented my sources. I have also started to write in my journal about the progress of learning how to use EBooks. I have planned a lesson for next week that will show my students examples of how to document sources and explain why it is important to cite the sources.
Tina to Dawn,
ReplyDeleteIt seems you have quite a few resources listed. Some, like the SmartBoard I didn't even think of adding. What kinds of EBooks are you planning on using? Have you thought about publishing your own EPub books or documents? It seems there has been a large interest in this area lately. Sounds like it has some real possibilities, it's just a matter of finding time to explore some of these areas. I really like the idea of graphing our progress for citing materials. Citing my materials is also one of my goals. I would also like to begin adding ownership or copyright information to materials and presentations that I create so it would help others when citing material they borrow from me. I plan on working with students next week on correctly citing material too. I did notice that we have citation machine installed on our library computers so I am going to ask the librarian to help students with that aspect of citation. Good luck with everything.
It seems that you have a great start to your GAME plan and you have a clear path as to where you want it to lead you. I am curiour to know about eBooks. Can you explain what eBooks are and how you plan to incorporate them into your classroom? I am curious about eBooks because I would love to be able to integrate some math subject matter books into my classroom through the use of my Smartboard instead of me just reading to the students.
ReplyDeleteI see that you have already planned a lesson for your students in regards to proper citations. How are you going about teaching this lesson? When I first seen this, I had numerous thoughts running through my mind of how you could teach this lesson. My main thought was having an interactive lesson using the Smartboard if there is one available. With this lesson, you could provide students with information and have them work together to cite the information. After each group has finished, then you can pick one to help you out with the Smartboard lesson. This is just a suggestion but I am really curious as to how you plan to teach this lesson on citations?
Bringing eBooks into your classroom is a wonderful idea. It is definitely one way to transfer literacy from school to home. On the subject of citing sources, I believe teaching citing is more effective when it is mentioned as you are presenting another area of the content. For example, if you are using Powerpoint to present a lesson, purposely use a song, poem, or another piece of art and cite it. When you incorporate it into another lesson, you save time while still showing students the importance of citing works.
